Brij

It is with a heavy heart that we share that Brij Spangler passed away. Brij was a student at Triangle Day School and a JTI racer. When he was diagnosed with cancer, Brij’s friends and family rallied around him. Sixty-five of his friends raced in his honor on the Triangle Day School for Brij team at the Chapel Hill Kids Triathlon in May. Brij and his family attended the race and spoke to us during opening ceremonies. Our thoughts are with Brij’s family and the entire Triangle Day School community.

Brij Austin Spangler passed away on July 14, 2024. He was the epitome of joy, kindness, resilience, compassion, intelligence, and fun. Brij loved everyone he met and was able to bring out the best in anyone. He in turn, was loved by anyone who had the pleasure to meet and know him. His smile immediately made you feel better and his laugh was more than infectious. Brij loved to have fun and throwing epic parties was his favorite. He could not get enough of his friends and family and cared for them so deeply and fiercely. He also loved the beach, baseball, Harry Potter, Minecraft, pool shenanigans, and Nerf battles. We could not have asked for a better son and he made us so, so very proud.

Brij was the strongest fighter in his battle against cancer. He was a true warrior and his resilience in those difficult times was astounding. Despite everything he endured he remained kind, polite, well mannered, and continued to think of others first. To be able to do so at 9 years old is an incredible attestment to his character.

Brij will be missed forever. He will be loved and carried in our hearts for an eternity. Per his wishes, we will take him with us everywhere we go.

“But know this: the ones that love us never really leave us.”
