JUST TRYAN IT (JTI) was founded on the belief that children can and should help other children in their community and through our kids’ triathlons, they have the opportunity to race in honor or memory of another child and fundraise for our cause. JUST TRYAN IT (JTI) provides financial assistance to families with pediatric cancer. By promoting philanthropy, empathy, and wellness, JTI inspires families to make a difference in their communities. JUST TRYAN IT was founded on the belief that children can and should help other children in their community and through our kids’ triathlons, they have the opportunity to do just that. In addition to raising funds for local pediatric cancer patients, our racers push themselves physically and emotionally in solidarity with a child fighting cancer.
Development and Communications Intern (20-30 hours per month)
The intern will assist with the fundraising and communications efforts of JUST TRYAN IT.
Development Duties: The intern will research potential sources of support, draft solicitation and thank you letters and support the administrative needs of JUST TRYAN IT. The intern may participate in Board Meetings, committee meetings and donor meetings as appropriate.
- Research potential funding sources for JTI.
- Maintain JTI donor database (Kindful)
- Maintain and cultivate JTI sponsors. Reach out to sponsors to request swag, banners etc… leading up to the race. Follow up with sponsors to provide photos etc. after the race
- Support JTI with the planning and execution of non-race related events.
- Provide administrative support for the Doing Good Together Campaign
Communication Duties: The intern will assist with creating dynamic and engaging content across all JTI social media platforms, executing the JTI communications calendar and creating newsletters, blog posts and other communications to promote JTI to a variety of stakeholders.
- Manage Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn profiles. Prepare posts for review by the Executive Director and post once approved.
- Create slideshows and videos to use on social media and for other promotional purposes.
- Build JTI social media networks – expand the number of followers and identify influencers to support our mission
- Work with Race Director and Race Interns to create and post content related to their respective community.
- Other duties as assigned
- Participate in bi-weekly check-in with the Executive Director

Kids Triathlon Race Intern
The Race Intern is crucial to the success of the children’s triathlon. A successful Race Intern is passionate about the mission of JUST TRYAN IT, is a self-starter who works well both independently and as part of a team.This person should be organized, detail oriented, and connected to the local community. The Race Intern is expected to dedicate an average of 5+ hours a week during the 16 week period leading up to the race. The work schedule is flexible and will likely be <5 hours to start and build as race day approaches.
Responsibilities
- Participate in race related panning meetings (one meeting each per month)
- Assist Host Committee with racer and volunteer recruitment including direct outreach to the local community
- Partner with Race Director, Director of Programs and Race Captains to ensure a positive and meaningful overall racer experience.
- Assist with delivery/pick-up and coordination of all race-day equipment, marketing materials and other local materials.
- Participate in race weekend as volunteer and/or captain.
- Promote the mission and cause of JTI in the community.
- Create meaningful content and assist with local social media race promotion.
- Maintain regular communication with the Race Director and Director of Programs.
- Assist in post race evaluation activities including development of racer survey and follow up with Key Racers to thank them and gather feedback.
- Assist with volunteer appreciation efforts and partner with Volunteer Captain to extend personal thanks to volunteers.
Performance Measurements
- Bi-weekly/Monthly check ins with Race Director and/or Director of Programs
- Evaluation of post-race feedback from key volunteers, sponsors, race families and the general public.
