Taniya

Taniya was diagnosed with leukemia in the summer of 2023, at age 19. According to her mother, Monique, she “is very Strong willed, she loves music and dancing, she is very fun and one of the most memorable people you will ever meet.”

JUST TRYAN IT provided Taniya’s family with an emergency relief grant that helped with utility-related expenses.

January 2024 Update
Taniya is still in treatment and it is “going as well as expected”. Taniya’s mother, Monique, says, “We’re both trying. Some days she wants to be up and laughing and joking and some days she just don’t want to be bothered. I think the hospital days are [difficult] for her.” Taniya is “still trying to figure everything out. She knows something is wrong, she knows she’s not her usual self.” Still traveling all the way from Wilmington to Chapel Hill for treatments and still unable to work, Taniya’s mother acknowledges that, “It’s still overwhelming for both of us.” They have recently had to move from a third floor to a first floor apartment because of the toll taking the stairs was having on Taniya’s body. “The chemo, it tears her body down.” Taniya’s mom also says that it can be difficult to ask for help during this time: “You know, because everyone has their own issues.” She is grateful for the help that she has received, including from JUST TRYAN IT.
