Olivia
November 2024
“Olivia was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma in her right hip just weeks before her 16th birthday. What was thought to be a sports injury (growth plate inflammation from overuse) was not determined to be cancer until after 6 months of doctor visits. By that time, the cancer had spread to her lungs. She is on month 4 or chemo, and month 1 of radiation. She will not be able to have surgery due to the location of the tumor. Her treatment will go through approximately May of next year, but we have made good progress so far. Recent scans have shown the tumor has shrunk by 80% and the lesions on her lungs are gone. This is nothing short of a miracle, and we are encouraged for the rest of the road we are on.
“I have left work in order to care for her full time. We are so thankful for the support of foundations such as yours, as it had been difficult to maintain with an single income and mounting medical bills. It has made a world of difference in her mental health (and mine) for me to be able to be with her through all of this.
“Before her diagnosis, Olivia was an avid lacrosse player, #3 on her high school varsity team. She is a huge UNC fan, both mom & dad’s Alma Mater. And she is a lover of animals – we have 2 kitties & a dog and she loves being at the beach. Her little brother Danny (12) is also a lacrosse player.
