Our Story
In the winter of 2007, a group of women got together and began running. Our ages span 12 years and our children’s ages span 10 years, and we are active in nine different school communities. After nine months of training, all of the women completed the Iron Girl triathlon in Columbia, MD under the team name “Just Tri It”. This was a first for all of us. We began to do more races and more women wanted to join. We have laughed, pushed, sweated, and cared for one another through training, and when we learned that Ryan Darby had leukemia at the end of 2009, we sprung into action to support Mollie Darby and her family. Since his name is Ryan, we decided to change our group name to JUST TRYAN IT in his honor.
In the spring of 2010, we founded a 501(c)3 foundation called JUST TRYAN IT to raise money for families fighting childhood cancer. Our leading fundraiser is a children’s triathlon in the summer. We empower healthy kids to help sick kids by seeking out pledges and raising awareness of the many struggles facing families with sick children. We teach them that winning is less important than helping those in your community and that TRYAN something new, like a triathlon, can be rewarding.
